Is Iran even wrong?

Would someone like to explain to me what, exactly, is supposed to be so wrong with Iran’s form of government? The more I learn about Iran’s constitution in the context of the present crisis, the more that constitution makes sense to me.

Some hyperventilating American neoconservatives ought to learn the difference between a relatively mild authoritarianism, as Iran seems to enjoy, and real, Cuba/North Korea-style tyranny. I would not want to live in Iran any more than you would; I much prefer the United States: but I do not begrudge the Iranians their own ways of doing things. Do you?

Incidentally, I am thoroughly unpersuaded that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad actually stole the election. That Iran’s interior ministry bungled the count is clear enough, but it nonetheless looks likely to me that Mr. Ahmadinejad won that vote, fair and square.

Be that as it may, the present Iranian crisis is not our problem.
